mosses have existed here for almost 299 million years - their simple leaves only one cell thick - non-vascular - lacking water-bearing vessels - they produce no seeds but spores - they can absorb liquids up to 20 times their weight - creating a soft green carpet and repairing their own DNA - they produce no flowers
